Does Your Campaign Website Need a PPC Boost?
Pay per click advertising (PPC) is the quickest way to put your website in the top positions of most major search engine searches — but this only for the terms (keywords) that you are willing to “bid” for. The way pay-per-click (PPC) works is that you pay each time someone searches and then clicks through to your website using a search term that you bid on. For example, if you buy the keyword phrase “TinyTown Mayor,” your ad would display on the results page when somebody searches for “TinyTown Mayor.” Managed properly, paid placement campaigns can deliver very cost effective and deliver
targeted traffic.
However, you may not even need PPC advertising for small campaigns.
You can only optimize a website for roughly ten major words or phrases. Fortunately, there probably aren’t more than ten phrases to describe your campaign, and your keywords won’t have to compete with such competitive categories as “mortgages”, “real estate” or “XXX”. Your target audience is people who seek your campaign directly, so any ads you create are likely to be extremely effective.
The best way to tell if you need PPC services is to do a search on Google, Yahoo and MSN (the three largest search engines) for you name or search for your name and the position you are running for. Or you can do a combination of a local hot-topic issue and your name.
If a page from your website comes out near the top of your result, congratulations. Your website is giving you the exposure you needed - and you probably didn’t even have a real online marketing plan in place.
If your campaign website does not show for even your name, then there are probably three reasons for this. One, your site is too new and has not been found by the search engines yet. Two, your website simply isn’t optimized enough with enough content or links pointing back your site.
In this case, PPC advertising wouldn’t hurt.
The major pay per click services allow you to set a daily or monthly budget, so you can tailor the costs to fit your needs. Below is an overview of the three major pay per click
search engines.
