Using Craigslist as a Communications Outlet
Craigslist.org is one of the most popular classifieds websites on the Web. Placing a free ad on Craigslist is a great way to advertise your campaign. Posting an ad is quick and simple to do. For political campaigns, it is a great way to reach more ‘tech-savvy’ constituents.
First you need to find your local community on craigslist, and then follow the step-by-step instructions for posting an ad.
Additional Posting Tips:
- Make sure you post in the proper area. This will typically fall under ‘politics’.
- Keep your posting title simple and to the point. “Bob Smith Campaign Kickoff”
- Your posting description to the point. Be sure to include a link to your campaign website.
- Simple HTML is allowed, so consider formatting your post a bit.
- Select “do not show my email address”. It’s better to include a phone number for contact, as email is sometimes not as reliable.
- Do NOT check the Permissions box. This would allow others to contact you with other services, etc.
Use the site to announce your campaign kickoff, press releases, fundraisers and other events. It’s an easy backlink, and certainly worth the effort.
